And a reminder that discussions about price, fee or competition is prohibited as it would be a violation of antitrust. If you haven’t reviewed ALA’s Antitrust Guide, please do so.

A special Welcome to our new members and thanks to each of you for your member participation and contributions.  If you enjoy writing, blogging or sharing, we welcome your input to future publications.  As always your feedback and input is greatly appreciated.

WELCOME TO THE NEW ALA ONLINE COMMUNITY

Online Community at www.alanet.org allows you to network and collaborate with your peers. Areas include:  Forums, Files, Members, Surveys/Polls and Communities. You will be prompted to log into the website to begin using the online community tools.   You can participate using the various tools to interact with others as well as go to the ALA Indiana Chapter Discussions to interact with your local members. We will be demonstrating the Online Communities at our October Chapter Meeting.

Forums

Forums are two-way communication lists where you can ask other members on your site questions or help answer theirs. They are a great way to encourage discussion and communication, and allow you to stay up to date on the topics that are most important to you. The Indiana Chapter has our own private landing page with a Chapter Forum to post questions to other members.

Files

ALA Reference Library

File libraries are repositories of files that users (with the proper security) can access and contribute to. Users can view and download files other users have added and upload their own to share (e.g., images, text and Word documents, PDFs, and even videos).

Members

Click the Members Tab to locate ALA members. You can search for Members, View Members by Name or View Members by Company.

Surveys & Polls

Your site and community leaders can create surveys and polls you can participate in, and you can even view the results of these surveys and polls to see how other users are voting on site and community issues.

Communities

Each community on your site has its own landing page providing community-based content for its members (and sometimes non-members as well).

Calendars

To help you stay up to date on the happenings of your organization, you can visit your My Calendar page to view all of the site- and community-based calendars you have access to. These calendars help remind you of upcoming items of interest, such as events, meetings, and conferences, and you can even subscribe to these items to receive notifications about them.

The Member Directory is a valuable resource which contains your contact information including name, firm/company, title, email address, website, telephone and fax information.
